Every word on the board, one sentence each.

The basics

Line
The number you bet over or under. “Points 22.5” is a line.
Over / Under
Your two choices: the real result lands above the line, or below it.
Prop
One player, one stat, one line. Short for proposition.
Leg
One prop inside a slip. A 3-pick has three legs.
Slip / Entry
The whole ticket you submit, made of legs.

The money words

Break-even
How often each leg must hit for you to come out even. Set by the payout, not by you. A 3-pick at 6x needs 55.03%.
Fair %
How often a pick should really hit, according to the blended sportsbook market. The big number in the VALUE chip.
EV% (expected value)
Roughly what you win or lose per $100 over many bets. Positive means it makes money long-run; negative means it loses.
Edge
The gap between the fair % and the break-even. Small is normal — a couple of points is a real edge.
Unit
One standard bet size, usually about 1% of your bankroll.
Bankroll
The money set aside for this, and nothing else.
Variance
Luck in the short run. It is why a good month and a bad month can both happen without anything changing.

Slip types

Power / all-must-hit
Every leg must land or the slip pays nothing. Bigger payout, less forgiving.
Flex / insured
Still pays something if you miss one, sometimes two. Smaller top payout, lower break-even.

Board words

Book
A sportsbook — the places AutoDFS reads prices from.
Consensus
The blended opinion of many books rather than one.
Books badge
How many sportsbooks price that exact line. More books, more evidence behind the number.
Line difference
No sportsbook is on that exact number. The cross-check is weaker, but these are often the softest picks on the board.
Devig
Removing the sportsbook’s built-in profit margin from a price so what is left is an honest probability.
Line shopping
Checking several apps for the same player, because the best number is not always in the same place.
Correlation
When two legs move together — same game, same player — which makes a slip riskier than the math assumes.

FAQ

What does EV mean in DFS?

EV, or expected value, is roughly how much you win or lose per $100 wagered if you made the same bet many times. Positive EV means the bet makes money over the long run.

What is the difference between fair % and EV%?

Fair % is how often a pick should hit. EV% is what that is worth once the payout is taken into account. Fair % answers 'how likely'; EV% answers 'is it worth it'.

What is a unit?

A unit is one standard bet size, usually about 1% of your bankroll. Talking in units instead of dollars lets people compare results without sharing how much money they have.
